Need new converter 2400ish or 3000ish?
Hey guys,
I'm going to be replacing the stock torque converter in my 84 T/A with one that more matches the cam profile which calls for a 2200+ converter. I've got a 355 installed with a Lunati Voodoo cam, world sportsman II heads, Edelbrock performer intake, hooker 2055's and custom 3" exhaust. The company says I should run a 2200+ converter with this (not sure how I missed this when I originally installed it but oh well) so I need to replace my stock converter. Would you go with a 2400 or say a 3000? I've heard the end of the argument from guys in my car club who dont' like their 3k converters so are going back down to a 2400) and from Atilla (for those of you who know him from here) who says that unless i like geting gone from go with a 2400 every time I leave from a stop light, that I should go with a 3000. He says this would give me better driveability until I mash the pedal at which point it does the Dr. Jeckle/Mr.Hyde thing (his words). I"m planning on using this as my every day summer car and just cruising around with occasional trips to the track. So, for those of you with experience with both of these size converters, I"m looking for some input. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For street/strip you want a converter stall about 500 rpm into the cam's powerband. For full race, it's about 1000 rpm into the powerband. Too high a stall is just as bad as too low a stall.
What's the camshaft advertised (total) duration?

Operating range is 1800-5800. A good street converter should have a rated stall speed around 2300 just like Lunati recommends. For full race, 2800 would be better but I wouldn't recommends a stall speed that high for that cam on the street.
