I have a question concerning how to adjust or modify the springs on the reverse lock out. I am putting a t56 manual transmission from a 1996 camaro into a 1985 Z28. I do not have the ecm to go with the tranny. I have been told you can cut the spring down for the reverse lock out. When I took mine off, there are 2 springs in it. 1 small and 1 bigger. They are both behind a c-clip. My question is which spring do you clip off and how much?

I wouldn't modify that since it will keep you from going into reverse instead of 5th on the highway.

You can wire it to work off a button or other switches in the car, instead of using the ECM.

I don't remember there being 2 springs inside the rev. lockout mounting piece either; just one.

PS: you can force the shifter through the lockout and into reverse; it just takes a good shove. I'd do this until I got it wired.

 

I seem to have 2 springs on mine, a large one and a very small one on back if you take the retaining clip out of it. not sure why.

If im looking to wire it up, am i looking for a constant 12v source, so that there is always voltage, or am i looking for a source that I can turn on and off with a switch. I am not sure how the system works, I have no wiring on it, so I dont know how this is intinded to work. I have also heard of using a RPM activated switch from MSD.

 

I just wired mine to my brake pedal. Every time I hit the brakes, it releases. This is the easiest way to me since I don't have to do anything special to go to reverse.
