I incorrectly bolted engine+torque converter to transmission and am told I probably broke my fluid pump in the trans, I have since pulled the trans and the oil pump looks to be fine, but I am wondering if the damage would be visible without pulling it apart, it looks like the metal tabs in it that engage with the converter are undamaged(the part most likely to break from what I read), but if someone could tell me what to look for, and or how to rebuild/repair the pump that would be great...because I'm not sure if its something I can tell without taking it apart or not, would prefer not to take it apart unless its necessary, on a bit of a time crunch...

Re: fluid pump repair/rebuild??
Did you remove a cooler line to see if you had oil flow???? You would not notice anything from the outside, you are going to have to remove the pan and remove the lockup solenoid and remove the aux valve body fluid pipe along with the trans filter. Then you can remove the 7 bolts for the front pump. I believe you can remove the pump without pulling the valve body, but I am not 100% sure. Now the pump will not just fall out you have to use a little force, they make a tool for pulling the pump out or I have seen people using pry bars. BUT you have to be very careful where you pry against, you can very easily damage a gasket surface. Once the pump assembly is out you have 5 more bolts on the back of the housing to open it up, and then you will see the actual pump assembly and the middle rotor with the 2 tangs where it fits to the end of the converter will more than likely be broken in 2 or more pieces. You will have to replace the entire Assembly, the rotor, vanes, pump slider and necessary rings and probably the converter bushing and seal. Once you reassemble you have to make sure the 2 pump halves are perfectly aligned by snugging the bolts and either using a large hose clamp or a straight edge and measure the outside to make sure the housings are not offset to each other. Once you get it aligned tighten the bolts to 18 ft lbs and replace the large o-ring and pump gasket and reassemble it to the trans. Once the trans is in the converter MUST be pulled up to the flywheel, if it is flush or not easily turned by hand STOP and remove the trans again and re-seat the converter, it must be 3\4 to 7\8 of an inch behind the front of the bell housing. Good Luck!!

Thanks, already have the pump out, just wasn't sure how in depth pulling it apart was, also for what this is worth, the tangs appear to be intact and the converter bushing looks ok, fortunately I did not start or crank the engine with it in installed incorrectly.
