The Quicksilver is a shifter, not a shift kit.

A shift kit makes the shifts harder/tighter I guess is how to describe. Transmissions are factory developed for smooth shifting so that the driver doesn't notice the shifts and has a smooth carefree ride. However, smooth shifting between gears means slipping clutches no matter what kind of tranny. If you had a manual tranny, and your wife just recently broke her collar bone, she'd be insisting that you shift smoothly, thus you'd make the clutch slip alot between shifts so there was minimal jerking of the car.

A shift kit makes the shifts happen faster with less clutch slippage. Thus the shifts are harder (you feel them more). It's actually head jerking to a degree (depends on how much tranny work was done, how much modified, and how far your foot is in it of course).

I have the B&M shift kit installed, along with the Corvette servos and boost valves - all on a freshly rebuilt tranny that was built strong. On my 1-2 shift, it jerks a tad, even when I'm easy on the throttle. At a slightly higher than 'granny driving' accelleration, my tires chirp on the 1-2 shift, as the shift is hard and tight and fast. When I have my foot in it, I get a good tire screech on 1-2 shift, a tire bark on 2-3 shift, and a tire chirp on 3-4 shift.

Mind you the Corvette valves and servos (whatever those gadgets are) have alot to do with it as well. But you get the idea.

Alot of folks say the B&M kit is junk, and the transgo kit is the way to go. I'm quite happy with my B&M kit, it was cheaper, easier install.

If the thought of dropping the tranny pan and installing these kits makes you queezy, think twice, and maybe see if you have any friends experienced with doing it that can help. It's really not that hard to do, requires some drilling of the thin plate in the tranny, and some replacements of ball bearings and such. But you must follow the directions to the T, and check and recheck to make sure you have these ball bearings in the exact right spots and such. And you have to drill the holes exactly where and to the exact size the instructions say. I think you can go to B&M or Transgo websites and download the instructions to see the differences in installation and what has to be done.

It was easy for me - I did it while my tranny was out for the rebuild - so I didn't have to look at everything upside down while tranny fluid dripped in my face.

ALSO - make sure to go the extra step, and install a drain bung and bolt in your tranny pan if/when you do this. The next time you have to do a fluid change or filter replacement you'll be glad you did - removing the pan and having all the tranny fluid drain all around the edges is not fun.

Re: Shift Kits!!!

Yes, a shift kit makes the shifting harder and not smoother.

Smooth means slippage, slippage means not as much power getting to the wheels as fast as it could, and also slippage means clutch wear.

Re: Shift Kits!!!

I installed a Trans-go 2-3 in mine. For some info on the install ,go to Trans-go web page and download their installation guide to give you a rough idea on the install. Like camaronewbie said, It's not that difficult to do, but follow the instruction sheet to a "T" and use the video for a guide. Shift points are as sharp as you want them to be depending on the springs you use. Smooth shifting trans. are slipping and wearing. Solid shifting trans. will help your tranny to last longer providing your transmission is in good shape to start with. Overall a trans. kit is a good investment for your transmission.

Re: Shift Kits!!!

To much misinformation here. The modified TransGo Shift kit that I offer does not make the transmission shift hard at part throttle. A smooth shifting transmission at part thottle will improve the life of the transmision. A firm or hard part throttle shift will shorten the longevity of the unit. A long shift at WOT will shorten the life and a short quick shift at WOT will improve it. Stay away from B&M.

TransGo FTW. It will make an I6 Trailblazer spin tires into second gear.

Re: Shift Kits!!!

Chirp- The same as a 4 speed manual when you accelerate a little hard and speed shift.
