5th gear problem

Car: 1987 irocz camaro
Engine: 305 tpi
Transmission: 5 speed
5th gear problem
I got an 87 t5 that rarely will shift into 5th gear. I think its a linkage problem. so can i get to any of the linkage by removing the shifter cover? or do I need to take the whole thing apart?
