84 z28

hello i am new to the site and i have recently just bought an 84 z28 that has a 350 an turbo 400 trans in it an when i bought the car the guy who did the motor swap put in a 350 out of a truck but left the truck flywheel on the engine well its too big and when i start it up the starter gear wont retract back in i got a new and smaller flywheel to put on and i am getting ready to do it tomorrow so i was wondering if anyone had any tricks or tips on making it easier for pulling the trans out and putting it back in seeing how this is the first camaro i have ever owned.... any help would be greatly appreciated and i thank you for your responses.

Re: 84 z28

you could probably have gotten away with simply shimming the starter down a little. If the flywheel was the wrong size, it would be much larger and the starter would not work at all.

shims i say
