my rear u-joint is loose inside the yoke, dana 44
my rear u-joint is loose inside the yoke (gmpp dana 44), it seems like the length (cap to cap) is just a tiny bit to short so the u-joint can slide back and forth inside the yoke.
i'm not sure if i even have the correct u-joint, the shop that balanced my drive shaft also "knew" the conversion joint i needed so i took their word, and it seemed to fit fine, but i had a crazy vibration still so i looked under the car again and the u joint is loose as described above. i need to drop the shaft and measure everything with a dial caliper, but before i do that does anyone know what the stock u-joint part number/size is? and/or what the dimensions of that u joint is? i'm assuming that the d44's yoke is the same as stock since it was a warranty replacement part

Stock rear-ends have a 3R yoke, the Dana 44 usually has a 1310.

well i seem to have the right u-joint, but it still has some play in the yoke along side to side, diameter wise it fits. it is a 1350 drive shaft side, 1330 on the axle side fyi. i guess i need to take the dam thing to a drive shaft place and see what they have to say
edit: if the axle has a 3r yoke, and i'm putting a 1330 u-joint into it, that is incorrect right? so i may need a 1350/r3 u-joint?

Diameter-wise a 3R joint looks like it will fit a 1330 yoke but it's too narrow, like you describe.
