Transmission Shifting Sensors?
Transmission Shifting Sensors?
Hello fellow 3rd Gen's,
My 1984 V8 305L Chevy Camaro's transmission was recently worked on (torque converter replaced and shifting cable replaced) because it was having problems shifting (the RPM would get very high before it would shift). I also replaced the carb, coolant temp sensor, and MAP sensor. For a while that seemed to have fixed it. Then when the car was warmed up I noticed that it was having problems shifting again. Other times, before the car warms up it has shifting problems. I keep getting the "check engine" light but no place can check that. I am wondering if there are any other sensors that I might need to replace to get it to shift normal all the time.
ANY help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Adam

Re: Transmission Shifting Sensors?
The ECM has absolutely no control over the shifting of the transmission, so anything you've changed outside it won't do you any good.
Are you still running the Quadrajet?

Re: Transmission Shifting Sensors?
Right, none of those things affected the transmission, except possibly the TV cable adjustment that was changed without realizing it when you changed the carb.
Sometimes drivability problems can make you think that there's a transmission problem when there's not. Can you describe your symptoms in detail?

Re: Transmission Shifting Sensors?
So it gets to the point where it should shift, and it flares like it's in neutral briefly, and then goes into the next gear?

Re: Transmission Shifting Sensors?
Sounds like a TV adjustment issue to me. Lurching doesn't sound like any slippage. TV cable is the ONLY thing that affects shift points. Read this and adjust: https://www.thirdgen.org/detent
On your engine codes, grab a paperclip and read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/service-eng...ht-error-codes

might the cable have to be adjusted at the transmission side?

Re: Transmission Shifting Sensors?
There's no adjustment on the tranny end.
You push the metal D in, and pull so that the part on the other side of the bracket goes into the cable, then you twist the linkage to full throttle (or press the gas pedal all the way down) and it should go back out, making clicking noises as it does.
