Weird noise in rear end (sort of like grinding)

Hey guys, I got an 89 Iroc, car's got 89,000 miles on it. I had a "mishap" with my 2.77 rear end and I found a 3.23 rear end from another 3rd gen. I don't know what that car's mileage was. Anyways, I put it on and ever since I put it on (about 7,000 miles) it's been making a weird noise. Since there was no noise before the swap then I know it's got to be the rear end that I swapped. It sort of sounds like if I was tu put some metal object against let's say my disc brake rotor. It's just grinding. But again it's not brakes. A friend of my told me that maybe my rear end needs to be "adjusted", he said his mechanic told him one time that there are some "adjusters" or something. Anyways I know nothing about rear end and I don't trust mechanics. Any help is appreciated. BTW, should I worry that this things will die on me?

Who put it in? Where did you get it? No gear oil in the housing?? Among other possibilities......

Ouch!!
Were the gears checked for pattern on both accelleration & coast?
Bearings checked // replaced? When it was assembled, did you do some figure 8s to get the gear oil dispersed to the bearings?

Is there anything rubbing the driveshaft-- speedo cable, parking brake cable, a piece of miscellaneous something back there that got trapped?

Maybe the best thing to do is pull the cover & see if there's pieces of gears or excessive shavings.

Is it mostly when your moving low speed? and after the rear end has been warmed up a bit? (driven)
