transmission pressure switches?
hey guys i have been having trouble getting my lockup to work properly it may be working now but i am not sure
i have a lockup solenoid kit installed externally for my tranny its supossed to lockup in 4th gear. it didnt work then i remembed during the engine swap when i dropped the pan their were 2 of the wires disconnected. where either the 3/4 switch or the temp switch would be, no switch though. and then one wire attached to the 4th gear presssure switch.
so i jumped the two wires not connected to anything together which i read was what to do. and put it all back together. my main questions are is how do i know the lockup is in? and my 4th gear pressure switch had two terminals on it but only one wire connected to it. i know its just there to supply a ground but how does it get the ground? just by being swewed into the tranny? and having only one wire hooked up to it is fine? so once it hits 4th gear lockup should engage by what i think if its getting ground. im just confused.

Re: transmission pressure switches?
I'd suggest buying an ATSG manual for 700r4's. They have diagrams in them that show all the various ways those switches were wired up from year to year. Some years used the temp switch, some didn't, some use an open circuit 4th gear lockup switch, some use the closed circuit switch. It can be a real PITA to figure out what your original configuration is supposed to be without those diagrams. Of course if you're simply replacing all that with an aftermarket, 4th gear lockup switch, the one wire that goes to the switch just needs to be a positive, 12 volt one if I remember right. I think the ground is accomplished by the switch being screwed into the valve body. If you do a search on the boards here for "lockup problems", there's a few old threads on here with lots of good info. One of those posts even tells you which wire you can splice into from your original lockup plug to provide power to the new switch. If you look at the old posts you probably won't even need to buy the ATSG manual. Some members posted schematics, or diagrams that show what needs to be done.
