Re: worth it?
Go take a look at it - while standing there, wave 6 brand new $100 bills in his face - never hurts to barter, but bartering without cash in plain sight is useless.
Brand new Pro Built Automatic ... $1400+
Used take-out tranny .... $300 with 90 warranty
So $750 sounds good if it's a good tranny (which you'll never know until it's in the car).

Re: worth it?
Receipts? Will he give you a reasonable warranty (1 week to install and test it)?
Make sure you are getting your money's worth and yes, that would be a fair price considering brand new converter.
A stock high stall converter can be nice to drive. I'd make sure I was getting either a new GM converter with a known part number that was a good one or some pedigree of it. A cheap reman with low stall can make the car suck to drive even with good gears like 3.73.

Re: worth it?
The term "corvette" means absolutely NOTHING - everyone and his brother that is selling any SBC related puts "corvette" in the title ... so there's no telling at all unless you can get a receipt or a number off the converter that googles to something.
But - ANY converter has to stall higher than a factory 3rd gen converter by default
Our factory converter stalls at about 1200 rpms. Even if it's the original converter from the original V6 that was in the S-10, behind the V8 it should still stall at about 2200 rpms.

Re: worth it?
There are a few "good" converters like the 4.3 S10 high-stall that (if I ran a 700-R4) I would buy based on the part number if I could verify it as a good GM higher-stall converter.
Stall speed / ratio is another discussion.
