Transmission has no gears.....help?

I currently have only 1st gear and it only engages slightly at close to 5000rpm....

Ok, so ill start by saying it is a 700r4, I bought it slightly used off a guy locally. he said it had around 500 miles on it. He sold it to go manual. before I installed it, I installed a full-manual reverse shift TCI valve body (W/o engine breaking). It had a higher stall converter. I then had it installed at a shop down the road. I drove it home, it seemed to only have P, R, N, and 1st. and it seemed to take a high rev to even get it to engage. The fluid was also leaking quickly above the pan(unrelated to the problem)

Over a year later I finally got back under her and found the leak and fixed it. (Where detent cable used to attach)

I tried driving it around, Still was slipping in first and reverse, like 3500 before it even started moving. tried shifting to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th while driving and it all stayed the same.

Okay so pulling in after test drive the engine seemed to start pulsing while trying to accelerate and i had to rev higher to get any movement (R was the same way). to pull it in i had to rev it in pulses to get it to move forward.

I was frustrated and decided to pull the valve body back out and check to see if I can find anything I did wrong. I double checked every step of the instructions (minus the servo) and made a few changes; I pulled both the 1-2 and 3-4 accumulator springs and pistons out as the directions said.

After this, I know have relatively nothing. P will lock up the wheels and 1st will move at close to 5000 rpm. I don't think I did anything inside to make it worse. I think its more from the last time I drove it. Oh, and fluid is at the full line when heated up.

Next step is to oil pressure check and to maybe heat it up one more time to check fluid level? Could it be the torque converter is trashed and just spinning or not installed right(repair shop a few years ago now)?

anyone have any advice it would be very much appreciated!

Re: Transmission has no gears.....help?

Anyone?

Jacked it up in the air, the tires move but its the same for every gear but P and im guess that is just because it locks in P. But not enough power to move the car.

My guess is pressure regulator may have popped out into the pan, or pump is broken? maybe torque converter?

I don't know what is going on with your car, but if you were having these issues right after getting it back from the shop, why in the hell didn't you take it back to them IMMEDIATELY?.. Why would you let it slide for several years?..

If I had to guess, I would say torque converter is causing the issues.. or else worn clutches inside the trans.. (I would not use this advice, I do not know much about trans.)

Re: Transmission has no gears.....help?

Why would the shop offer any kind of warranty on a tranny that I brought to them? I should have talked to the kids I bought it from but I thought it was something I had done, so I let it slide.

Anyways that's all done and over with.....

Anyone have an advice?

Re: Transmission has no gears.....help?

Hook up a pressure gauge to the port by the shift linkage sould give an idea if pump is bad dont qoute me on this but i believe your wanting to see around 200 psi on gauge but u could have a bad low/reverse clutch in it. how good u know this guy could have just sold you a paper wieght to start with probly should do a rebuild on it atleast open her up and check. Especally if you not getting pressure on gauge youll want to rebuild her anyways plus change converter When you install new pump
