need a 700R4 expert
low mile 700R4 with a street/strip shift kit from pro-built auto has 1st and reverse only. verified governor is good and working correctly, TV is adjusted correctly and TV is not stuck in the valve body.
pulled main valve body and all looks good
pulled forward accumulator and found the piston to be completely frozen in the bore. Could this be the likely cause of no forward shifting?
Thanks

Re: need a 700R4 expert
I doubt it. stopping the accumulator piston movement is what the B&M shift kit does if you do it to the street/strip directions.
This accumulator is what gives granny shifts. Put a solid spacer in there, you get tire-chirping upshifts.
What happens, while driving, if you go to redline in first, then lift? Does it then go to third? If so, you may have hurt the 2-4 band.

In Drive it runs through 1st and then nothing till you slow down enough for it to go back into 1st, if i ratchet back down to 1st it drops in perfect.
I'm going to take the main valve body apart tonight and see if i can find anything out of place.
Thanks

Re: need a 700R4 expert
did this problem start when you put the shift kit in and if so did you upgrade the servo?
if you changed the servo to a vette servo and started having the problem, you may not have engaged the band good when re-installing the servo.
also with a bad/ burnt band, you may not get third at all.

Re: need a 700R4 expert
I actually never drove it on this trans before the shift kit. (long story)
I took the entire valve body apart today and completely cleaned and checked everything. The only thing i found was the 3-2 control valve wouldn't move in the bore. I cleaned up the bore and it moves like it should now.
the VB is back in, just need to pick up a drain kit and some fluid before i can test it.
If it still doesn't work i'll probably drop the trans off at the local performance trans shop and let them deal with it.

got it back on the road today, still no 1-2 shift so the trans is coming out this week for a full tear down.

Re: need a 700R4 expert
found the "new"servo seals were weak, replaced them and also found the 3-2 valve stuck. It's all good now.. shifts a little late to 2nd at part throttle and 3rd is soft but the car is on the road at least.
