It's always nice when...

Today after work I started to replace my differential cover gasket because mine was leaking bad. Got the cover off and started to clean it up really good inside and out, because I had the idea to paint my diff cover Chevy Red Orange. Got it all cleaned up, primred, and painted with intentions of letting it sit all night and dry really well. That's when I decided to start cleaning off the pumpkin and get it ready for the install tomorrow. When suddenly I noticed that my differential did not look like what I thought I had... I figured being a 92 RS with a 305 that I had an open differential. But it looked oddly like an Auburn posi-trac unit. I don't have the car lifted up so it was a bit hard to see everything inside the differential. So I jacked the car up, put it in neutral and released the parking brake. I started to spin one wheel and sure enough the other one started to spin in the same direction at the same speed. So... This makes me VERY happy because here I thought I was going to have to do all this work to make my car a posi-trac car.

Now my question is this, how many RS Camaros came with the Auburn Posi-Trac unit??? I though all RS model cars came with the open diff, and only the Z28 and IROC models had the posi-trac...

Also, just found a metal tag that was on one of the cover bolts. Cleaned it off and it says, "Use Limited Slip Lubricant Only" so I guess that is another way to know you have posi

Yeah, finished up the rear diff today, adding my fluids and what not. Only took me 4 hours because the fill hole bolt was stripped as all could be and I ended up breaking a socket, and my drill trying to easy out the bolt. Finally with good ole fashioned man power I was able to get it to break free so I could fill up the pumpkin and put in a new bolt.

I took the car out for a spin to make sure I was not getting any lock-ups or weird noises, when I decided to do a burn out in the car. This is honestly the first time I've tried to burn out in this car. And sure enough after all the smoke had cleared I got out of the car and found two solid black lines left by my tires. Sweet action

Anybody know the answer to my original question??

RPO G80 Limited Slip Rear was a $100 extra cost option that could be special ordered on any 3rd Gen car. 16,333 were installed in all 1991 models.

Re: It's always nice when...

Sure that answers it for the 91 Camaros, but I have a 92 and now I'm starting to think mine was not stock with the limited slip because I do not have the G80 RPO listed in my list...

Ok, I found out that only 7,106 1992 Camaros came with the G80 RPO but I'm pretty sure somebody must of installed on in my car...
