700R4 2-1 downshift.
Brief review. I bought my '83 Crossfire after the previous owner had a shop do a trans rebuild with a "Corvette servo". Upshifted earley and shifts were all stacked on top of one another. Adjusting the TV helped. But thanks to the help I got here, (no help from several local trans shops who were only interested in a rebuild), I had the governor replaced with a "Corvette governor" and we are 95% better.
Okay, fast forward. Sometimes it doesn't downshift from 2nd to 1st when you give it WOT the way that I think it should, and the car is caught flat footed, lugging in 2nd. My 2.93 geared Crossfire needs all the help it can get. Short of putting in a shift kit, how can I address this?
Oh one more thing...
I replaced the stock LU5 exhaust manifolds with L69 HO exhaust manifolds recently, and I may be imagining it, but it seems more noticeable now.

I would try to tighten up the detent cable a little more. After my rebuild, I adjusted it per instructions, but he said to go tighter yet to fix the exact prob you are having because I had the same issue.

Tighten the cable a little more and that should fix it and make it hold the gears a little longer.

Rob, it shifts up perfectly now. It's just the 2-1 downshift which I don't always get.

It also explains what's going on inside the transmission, and how all the other parts are supposed to work; which is a gold mine of knowledge, in addition to just how to set up the cable.
A good example of what the Internet COULD be if nobody but knowledgeable people were allowed to write such things.
