looking at buying a used 12 bolt for my iroc ... what questions to ask?

Since there are NO 12-bolt rears that will fit these cars, except for specialty aftermarket ones, a good question to ask is, was the rear bought SPECIFICALLY FOR 3rd and 4th gen Camaro/Firebird with stock suspension; in particular, does it have the custom center housing that accepts the torque arm. If not, it won't fit without ALOT of modification of something (either the car or the rear).
Sounds to me like, this is probably not one of those.

I agree with sofakingdom.
It needs to have torque arm mount because that's part of the pumpkin. The rest of them (lower control arms, spring perches) could be converted over if needed.
It needs to be stock width or close to it.
You might want to ask what gears it has. Usually dirt track cars like to run high 4's or even 5's. People usually tell you gears are cheap only $150-$200 what they don't tell you is you need an install kit and tools to set them up properly or have a shop do it which can be $300 - $500 in labor.
Ask how much use is on it.
Ask about the center. Most dirt trackers use mini spools, which are great for spinning tires on dirt, but on pavement they take some abuse.
