I went with the Eaton posi. = http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Produc...iLSD/index.htm
I had it done by a pro.with a complete upgrade. Absolutely no complaints.

My '84 is the same way. It is posi, but it's so very worn out. In my case, it's to be expected, after more than 200,000 miles of mostly in-town use.
If you have a high-mileage Auburn, ( 7.5" ) then this is a good chance to upgrade. The Eaton is popular, but the newer carbon clutches are questionable. Some love them, some hate them. And the TrueTrac is gaining in popularity. Figure out what you have, and look into both options before spending your money.
And if you do buy a new posi, this is the time to convert to 28 spline.
If you have a 3.45:1 7.75" 9-bolt, then that changes things.
Or just get a '90-'92 V6 / auto axle, and put a Lock-Right in it. Those are 28 spline and 3.42:1 to start with.
