Looking to Hire someone to rebuild rear end - what procedure should he follow? Help!

I have a busted IROC I don't want to tow to a shop, so I'm interviewing mechanics for rebuilding the rear end out of it. I have had several people say they can do it here in my garage, but one guy said they need some sort of press for bearing and such. I really want this done correctly ... what do I need to know about them rebuilding it?

If you were in Illinois I'd have a guy. It's more of a special knowledge repair than having alot of tools. My neighbor just rebuilt mine last night and it's a million times better. Good luck and throw a gear in it

Did your neighbor need a press of some sort to rebuild it?

If new gears,You can use a press to put them on. I sometimes can heat the bearing in a oven and freeze the pinion gear. bearing drops right on... sometimes. worst case is you go finish in a press.
old gears need the big pinion bearing cut off to get the spacer out to use on new gears 4 a pinion depth starting point or just 2 replace bearing on old gears..
same with the 2 carrier bearings, cut/heat 2 get them off and heat/press on new ones..
I've rebuilt or swapped gears in over 300 rearends.
basic bearing swap and housing clean out takes as little as 4hrs.
most times i have closer 2 8hrs 4 a gear swap, clutchpack rebuild and bearings..
