Carrier question

So, I got a 17 spline carrier from a good friend of mine that I was going to use in my car. Here's the problem, I have 26 spline axles. I was wondering if the side gears are interchangeable?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Carrier question

Probably not... since the only spline counts ever used in any of the rears that fit these cars were 26 or 28, any carrier with any spline count besides those is for some other model of rear.
