Rear diff carrier question

I have a 1983 Trans Am and according to the VIN it has 2.93 gears which means a type 2 carrier. I have a set of 3.73 gears but don't know which style carrier they are for, type 2 or type 3. Is there any way to know which carrier gears use without taking it all apart? I know they make 3.73 gears for the type 2 carrier but don't know how to tell if they're correct.

Re: Rear diff carrier question

IIRC, 3.42 & up are 3-series carriers.
