Question on B&M compatibility

ok so i have a 1984 camaro z28 305 5.0 H.O. it has overdrive so im pretty sure its stock 700r4 (first automatic). im bored and was thinking of installing a B&M ratchet type shifter.

1. are the B&M's 100% compatible with the 700r4 of this year? should i make any upgrades to tranny prior to purchasing/installing a shifter of any kind?

2. which model B&M should i go with? (daily driver)

3. how hard is installation?

im mechanically inclined, my dad has experience with an 86 iroc similar engine but never really delved into transmission aspect of the car. he was lucky his was manual trans..... any help would be great thanks.

Re: Question on B&M compatibility

The console mount B&M megashifter should work great for your car. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-80692/

Next time do a search first. This is one of the first mods a lot of third gen owners do to their cars.

Also, if a search doesn't work, try to pick a more appropriate board to post your question in. the DIY PROM board is for anything related to tuning our factory computers... Maybe the transmission and drivetrain board, or even the interior board would have been a better choice.
