Get the code off of the axle on the front of the passanger side and look it up.

Re: Camaro rear end

just remember that the previous owner could have swapped...

if he had the speedometer re-calibrated, get your speed, transmission ratio (what gear your in), and rear tire diameter and google for a rear end calculator...

if the speedometer is off, you can use a GPS and it should get you close enough...

Welcome to TGO, Falconsfan.

The rear is either an open or a limited slip (same thing as posi). In theory the axel tube suggestion is a good one; however, the ones I've looked at were rusted to heck and the numbers unidentifiable. You could also check the RPO's. Since the car is 20+ years old though and may not be original to the car--and who knows when the last time the diff fluid was changed--drop the cover and take a peek. If the rear is a 10-bolt, the link below will help ID what you have:

Re: Camaro rear end

Or you could jack the car up and turn the tires if both tires turn the same way its a posi if not its open you can do it on jackstands to thats what i did .When i went from a 2.73 open to a 3.42 posi out of a 98 4th gen camaro and it made a big difference on my 305 tbi but i have some things done to it im putin down 202 hp and 268 tq to the tires
