Im getting ready to work on a friends problem, it shifts 1 -2 -n. everything sounds fine, shift timing seems very good, but when it shifts from 2nd its like flipping it to neutral. I did notice when i test drove it that if i ease the pedal down and rev the engine its like it went back to 1st gear and when i let off it free rolls like neutral, altho i dont feel it downshifting. The problem apparently just came from nowhere, one day he went to drive it and there it was. nothing leading to it. the tranny oil looks new, smells new and in the right level range.
so my question is.. leaning away from clutch pack, what else could cause this. I dont think governor could do this, but I am leaning towards something stuck because of the unfrequent driving. I may pull the pan today and get a visual, make sure there are on contaminents due to a failure. I dont think the tranny has 2000 miles on it though. how could it shift 1 -2-1 and free roll back to an idle?
