Rear end Rebuild..Help Advice Needed!!!

Hello everyone I'm no gear head or by any well informed when it comes to a rear end...So I have a 1985 z28 with the stock 10-bolt with 3.08s. I'm wanting to rebuild because the rear end is beginning to whine a little plus it could use it anyways....I'm definitely wanting to beef it up a little bit....Would 3.42s be a good choice on the gears and what else would help....I want the car to still be driven on almost a daily basis....Advice is appreciated!!!

don't bother rebuilding it.grab a rear from a v6 camaro.most are 3.42 geared and are the same as the v8 rear.i did.

Don't blame ya for wanting to get a better rear-end but the whining could be coming from the U-Joints on the drive shaft.... Just a possibility is all..... Do what Zenish suggested and replace the U-Joints while you got the drive shaft dropped. They don't cost much....

Rebuilding a 10 bolt can be expensive.I rebuilt mine with the best I could find.
Its a street car with street tires . Had a Professional build it ,and he said if I can break it he would replace it for free. Here's a link to showing some of the work being done = https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...de-photos.html

Yea, mine is a street car too. That was the same setup I was wanting to do 3.42s and a posi. I don't mind spending some money on it as long as its built right and will last. It looks good by the way.
