Rebuilding rear end
So I've saved enough cash now to buy the parts to rebuild the rear on my 87 IROC....buying a master bearing kit, eaton 3 series posi, richmond 3.73 gears, moser 28 spline axles, and a new diff cover. Looking to eventually put 300-350 hp (flywheel) motor in. I know the 7.5 rear is weak, but I shouldn't have a problem in this horsepower range, would I?

Re: Rebuilding rear end
Richmond gears are cut a lil different and have more noise than motive gears do. So I'm told. I have installed a bunch of both and its true for the most part..

Re: Rebuilding rear end
I think youll be fine. Its clutch dumps and sudden traction situations that kill diff's. With all the things you listed and the cover you should be golden.

Re: Rebuilding rear end
Hey thanks guys. Another quick question..the rebuild kit. Would this be the correct one I can use?

And do I need to buy spider gears or are they in the install kit? Sorry for the noob questions. First time messing with a rear end.

Re: Rebuilding rear end
Well I ordered the Motive gears instead of the Richmond since I've read from a alot of the posts here that they're quieter. Oh and disregard the spider gear question. Looked it up and saw they're inside the posi. Thanks again guys.

Re: Rebuilding rear end
Here's a list of what your going to need. I see you have most of that, you still need the axle bearings and seals and a professional to install it all .If you don't have one already.
1)Master bearing kit
2)Axle bearings and seal
3)28 spline, 3 series ,Eaton Posi.
4)28 spline axles
5)L.P.W. Cover “no gasket,only silicone”
6)ring and pinion
7)installation by a “professional”
