Problem is, last summer the transmission worked fine, no issues what so ever. Fall came, I ripped the old 305 out, ripped the interior out. I bought a nice 350 out of an IROC, hot rodded it a little bit and got her back in there. Got the motor running this week, broke in the new cam and all. I went to put it in drive just to take it up the driveway and NOTHING. I was waiting for the bang. Nothing. No gears whatsoever. I checked fluid. I checked the linkage which appears to be hooked up properly (since I havent touched it). The 3 or 4 wire connector is attatched but I dont know if its hooked up on the other end but I'm not sure if that would keep the tranny from engaging. Where should I start on this one? The only thing I havent checked is the TV cable but as far as I understand, it wouldnt stop the tranny from engaging. idea?

 

Didn't forget the convertor bolts?
Someone stole the tailshaft?
Double checked the oil after it was running?
Tried jiggling the shifter around?
Does it lock in park?
Does oil squirt out the pressure test port? ie is it pumping oil?
Didn't accidently put the wrong convertor on?

I spose you've already tried swearing at it...

 

do you have any line pressure? Try taking one of the tranny cooler lines loose from the rad when its running and see if you get sprayed or not, lol

 

TQ converter is not attatched to the flywheel... well. That could be it!

i have a question i am new on this site so still trying to figure everything out i have an 88 Firebird 355tbi with a 700r4 tranny i took it out last night after a Little while it started to shift only at 2500 rpm and now i have no revers the fluids are right were they need to be i no nothing about transmissions i know it was rebuilt before i bought it so it only has around 4200 miles on it does any one know what it could be ideas

 

Reverse? Who needs it? mash the pedal and swing it 180 if you need to, hahah! Im no expert, I wish I could help but try searching the forum for something like "700r4 no reverse" or something of that nature. Good luck!
