I had new bearings, gears, axles, aluminum cover with a girdle and backbrace put on my 10 bolt, first time I got second gear hard the spider gears broke in the old stock posi unit. Looks like the auburn unit to me, but no parts are available for it and as I understand it, it's not serviceable. I don't see why the spiders cannot be changed though, I do have access to another stock posi unit for parts so I can try to stay away from setting up the gears again. Is it possible to change them? Just don want to waste my time or money buying the posi to swap guts if it's not do-able and I need a whole other unit anyway. tIA

 

You can steal spiders from an identical Auburn, but you're likely to break those. I love the Auburn for a daily driver, but only if the owner is willing to do frequent lube changes. Otherwise Auburn's friction stuff contaminates the lube, and accelerates wear of the gears, c-clips, and bearings. Not good.

In theory, the Eaton is more serviceable parts-wise.
Like Tortilla said, the Auburn contaminates the fluid with wear and he hasn't implemented the Dana 60 particulate filter/pump system for the third gens yet.

But... Auburn parts are listed... which kinda doesn't matter if the case itself is ground out.
