sort of a n00b question but what kind of transmission do I have in my 84 camaro sc an m5 or a4? its a 2.8l carb'd automatic? and will 90 degree fwd applications be compatible with my tranny/bellhousing because I really want to swap in a 3100 built up.

 

A4 = Automatic 4-spd

M5 = Manual (I'll let you decode the # of gears)

Your automatic is a 700-R4.

The RWD 3.1 will drop right in, since it's NOT a 90° motor, it's a 60° just like you have now... exact same crap as what you've already got, just a little bit more of it. In fact it was the 6-cyl used in these cars starting in around 89 or some such.

FWD 3.1, not so much.
