Rear End CArrier Side Bearing Puller?

Hey guys, I have been trying to remove the side bearings from a carrier unit I have, and have had no luck. What tools do you guys use to remove these?

I was wondering if anyone has ever used something like this successfully? TIA, Rodney.

A "jaw" puller will work on some carriers.

About the only way to know if it'll work on yours, is to try it.

The odds are better with a 3 series carrier because the ring gear end of those is more cone-shaped, less flat, than a 2 series.

The standard shade-tree method is to slot the bearing with a small wizz wheel or something, then split it with a chisel. USE EYE PROTECTION and do it out in the open away from anything that can break from high-speed flying debris if you decide to try this!!!

I'd go for a bearing splitter. Best used with a press, but a 2-jaw puller is another method.

I cut and split them. A puller will do it but they usually slip and ruin the bearing cage anyway

Re: Rear End CArrier Side Bearing Puller?

i usuually cut the cage off with a torch so everything but the inner race falls off , then ill cut the bearing race with the torch on one side and it will fall off.

i dont recomend any novice to try this as u are more then likley going to torch the surface the bearing gets pressed onto and possibly ruin the carrier

simplest method for most ppl will be to ise a tiny cutoff wheel and cut the outer bearing cage to get to the inner race and slice it with the cutoff wheel. u dont have to cut all the way threw the race, u leave just a lil bit of material left and use the chisel to make it split
