rear end/speedo help!
rear end/speedo help!
i have a 82 2.8 4spd camaro, im putting in a 355 t5 into it. i have a 83 z28 donor car which i got the engine/trans from.
which rear end would be more preferable for performance? the sport coupe's or the z28's?
Also do i need to get the gauge cluster from the z28? is that just a direct bolt in? i heard something about the speedometers and tachs being different and idk what needs changed
thanks!

Re: rear end/speedo help!
They're both going to be 26 spline axle 10-bolts if original.
Assuming they're both drum brakes, the only factors are the ratio and whether it's limited slip.
The T5 should match up nicely to something in the 3.23 to 3.73 gear ratio range.
Tachometers are accurate to a number of cylinders, so you'd want to try and go to a V8 tach, yes. Not sure how bolt-in it is, there may be minor wiring differences but if they're both full gauges cars, it should be pretty straight forward.
