4L60/ 700R4 + 5.3 Gen III block

All of the specifics and reasoning aside.............

What specifically do you have to do to mate a 4L60 from a 91RS to a gen3 5.3 block and make it work without burning up? what parts do you need, what considerations need to be made? average cost?

what are the reasons NOT to do this? or... to do it.... one reason i'm -considering- this is for money$$$$$$ savings

i'm not saying i'm GOING to do this, but it is one of 4 logical options i have been presented with and am trying to make the right decision by ruling out the possibilities.

thx

Well you shouldnt have to worry bout burning up since the 4l60e sits behind 5.3l, but youll need and brainbox for the trans. I dont know costs.

Oh ya new 4l60e cost around 2k. In my area used are 1200

Re: 4L60/ 700R4 + 5.3 Gen III block

I agree about the 4l60 ---> E <---- since that's what they come with,

the question was about the 4l60 (-E) aka 4L60 / 700R4 that came on the (i think) 89-92 F-bodies.

they were called 700R4's up until the final years of the 3rd gen, then they started calling it a 4L60 and i suppose, changed some things etc, but.

the 4L60E is 93-02 F-body, and, i think still being put in vehicles today.. E is electronic, the NON E is cable actuated, at least on my car, by the TBI throttle cable area.

hence the question i posted.

how do you hook an old school 4L60 to a new school motor without burning it up?

considering the 700R4's are incredibly finicky and if they are off in adjustment, you burn them up, and... the newer motors don't have the same brackets, and aren't really designed for the older transmissions blah blah blah etc etc etc

...

however, thanks for the comment, just want to make sure we're on the same page.

It will bolt right up you have to use a flywheel spacer,and a 700/4l60 started in 94 with the f body
