Advice please !

So my trans is acting up ... But my fluid doesn't smell burnt.
the problem is it'll shift fine one day then not shift til 40 the next it's totally random tho ... It's an auto

is the fluid low?
check it with the trans warm, engine running, in park.

could be that the throttle valve is sticky.. it's easy enough to gently pull the tv cable out as far as it will go and let it go a few times...
