ok so its an 89 RS with the 700r4 transmission. this is my daily driver and usually only when i drive the car for the first time of the day this happens. ill start it let it warm up for like 5 minutes then ill put it in reverse to back out of the driveway and it wont go into gear for almost 10 seconds sometimes but once it finally does it shifts into drive normally and shifts normal throughout the day including reverse. if anybody has any input or need more info please let me know. thanks in advance

 

Check the transmission fluid to see if it is low and if it looks dark and not bright red might need change transmission fluid and filter.

 

checked and the fluid is right where its supposed to be and a bright red. fluid and filter was changed maybe 7,000 miles ago

 

How many miles does the transmission have?

 

im not sure how many miles the tranny has. ive had the car less than a year. the car has 160,000 miles

 

Well if the transmission is the original one that come with the car it's probably the clutches are wearing down.
