spider gear 26-28 spline question

I know you can't run 28 spline spiders in a 26 spline carrier, but will a set of 26s fit in a 28 spline carrier? I'm too poor to upgrade axles at the moment. Both are open, nonposi carriers. Thanks.

Re: spider gear 26-28 spline question

They should. The only difference is the size of the hole in the carrier that the axle goes through. 28 spline side gears will fit into a 26 spline carrier but the axles can't fit through the carrier hole. Putting 26 spline side gears in a 28 spline carrier will just mean the hole the axle goes through will have more room around it.

That's my thought on it also. I just didn't know if the tighter housing added any strength value. Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not sure about that. I'm thinking that the 28 spline case is wider inside than the 26 spline case. It's been a few years, but I think I've tried that before and it didn't work.
