Okay, so this is yet another instance of I need to kick myself in the ***. Last night I took my center console out of my car to restore it. My girlfriend feels a need to drive every single day, so I told her to be careful as a lot of stuff is exposed in there that is important, and I drive my other car to work. Naturally, I receive a call about an hour ago- the car is stuck in drive. By stuck in drive, I mean I cannot use the shifter to shift into any gear and the shifter feels abnormally..."floppy", if you will. When I step on the brake and shift down like I normally would, I can run the shifter between both extremes with zero effort. Seems that there was tension on it before, i reckon. I have a Chilton's manual for the car, but the diagram for the shifter is less than informative. Does anyone have a better diagram, or pointers for what I can start looking for?

If I had to guess, I would think there is a hook or spring for the shifter cable that locks onto the lower bracket of the shifter, and as you pull it back it adjusts the gear selector on the transmission...but like I said, I'm just guessing.
