speedo quit working

speedo quit working
well this morning when i took my car to school my speedometer was working, got to school, parked the car till i got let out, but when i started to drive again my speedometer didnt work, i crawled under the car to make sure the cable is connected to the tail shaft and it is, what could cause this? i just did a motor swap but its been working for almost a month now till today. help? suggestions? how hard are the cables to replace?

They're not bad.
Probably have to pull the gauges back to unclip the cable housing from the speedo.
The other end unthreads from the trans.
The mid section may be clamped down at the firewall or underneath.
Before assuming it's the cable, jack up the rear, put it on jackstands and unthread the cable from the trans. Spin the cable by hand and see if the speedo moves. Then, start the car and let it idle. Put it in D and let it roll. See if the speedo gear is spinning.
Since you just replaced the trans., it's suspect before the old cable / speedo that worked in the past.
