1982 V8 4-Speed Manuel

There is a local ad that lists a 1982 V8 T-Top Firebird with a 4-Speed manuel. (The car has a carb on it, not the Crossfire Injection) Being a bit old school, im thinking that the 4-speed would be cool in my 91 GTA, but are the 4-speeds good tranys? I punch in some numbers and compared to a 4-speed auto, losing that overdrive only lost me 4 MPH in my top speed, but is it worth the money and time doing the swap? And who makes the trans? I know what Borg Warner made the T-5's and for the 81's down they where Saginaw/Muncies, I just dont know about this one year of transmisson.
Thanks,
Nicky

Re: 1982 V8 4-Speed Manuel

my 3/82 built '82 z came with a BW super t10,but i have heard saginaw 4 spds were installed later in the '82 model year. The super t-10 is a stout"old skool"manual tranny-far tougher than a t-5,but they can have problems with the bearings turning in the aluminum case and wearing the bearing housing areas-that happened to mine, was still going strong at 100000mi,but oil kept turning "aluminum gray"and input bearing was getting noisy.

Re: 1982 V8 4-Speed Manuel

EVERYTHING 8t2 z-chev said ^^^

What sucks is doing over 3k rpm at freeway speed and watching the gas gauge move almost as fast as the speedo... lol

You would have to decide to weld the Zbar mount on the frame for the clutch pedal OR do a hydraulic conversion.

Unless your pushing 500+ hp, that BW ST10 can take a beating. I know i have over 200k miles on mine and haven't broken it yet with my 450 hp 383.

And if you really want to do that conversion, let me know as i am fixing to sell my complete BW ST10 w/hydraulic TOB 'complete setup' and installing a T56.
