What do I really have?
According to the spec sheet on this site for the 1987 Camaros, my carb'd 305 LT has an "A4" auto tranny. I realize it's probably a stupid question but what does that mean? I'm a Camaro newb so forgive my ignorance. I'm just trying to evaluate how much cash I'd have to spend on the drivetrain for make 450hp reliably for a street car. I haven't really decided to do N/A or FI because the tranny costs will influence my decisions. To me it makes sense that all 305's got the same 4-spd auto tranny regardless of model but I'm probably wrong! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

"A4" = 4-spd automatic
The actual model # is 700-4R. The name was changed to 4L60 (no E) starting in about 90 or so. Same trans, identical in every way; different name.
Yes all 305s (and all the other motors in these cars as well) got the same "model" of trans; specifically, that one there. However they are not all "the same".
