One possible cause is that the torque converter bolts are loose.

Definite possibliity. I bought a parts car years ago, started it up and it sounded like a main bearing was shot. Went to pull the trans and the torque converter bolts were finger tight.

Nope, its not the converter bolts. ive double checked to make sure that they are tight, and that also wouldnt explain the noise going away when i increase or decrease line pressure.

Could be a long list of things. Convertor wasn't installed correctly, The input shaft has play going in and out. Did you check your trans before installing it? I'm no expert so if I'm wrong correct me or clarify what you think I meant to say.
