Hi all, I was told this is an early 700r4, I don't know the yr, it sits in a 1986 Trans am. I had both rear wheels off the ground to install tires, and I noticed that when I spun the wheels in any direction, while the trans was in park, the driveshaft didn't move. When I spun them in a forward direction, the opposite wheel went the other way. Shouldn't the trans in park lock up the rear wheels.??
I don't understand why the rear wheels could move and not the drive shaft??
I do lot drive the car right now, works in reverse and forward.
Sorry for the dumb question but I did search the boards for these questions.
thanks for any guidance, Rich

Perfectly normal for an open differential. When you take the cover off to change the rear diff oil, observe how the spider gears work with the ring gear and you'll see how/why it works that way pretty quickly.
thanks for that info............that scared the hell out of me.......whew !
