Seemingly good 9 bolt posi unit
I am pretty sure I have good posi cones in my 9 bolt. They look exactly as pictured in the specs on 9bolt.com and I have torque tested them. The posi breaks at 40lbs, and I have read that if it breaks at 35lbs, then it should be replaced. My question is, when you have good or new posi cones, what is the torque rating where they will slip? Is 40lbs going to last for a while, or does it already have one foot in the grave?

If your over the 35lbs break away number your good. Think your worried about an issue you don't have yet. The break away numbers will decrease as the rear wears. You'll know when the cones are worn when it goes one legged

I'm mostly worried about how long it will last. 40lbs is not too far removed from 35lbs. I've seen alot about bad 9 bolt posi units, but if they break at 35 lbs bad, what do they handle when they are new? I am just trying to speculate how much closer it is to going bad, as opposed to being new.
