Broken Carrier question

So, my rear end blew apart on the freeway (), and my gears and bearings need replaced (duh), but here's my problem.

The carrier itself took some nasty hits, and I think I need to replace it (it's really messed up where the pinion shaft lock bolt goes...).

Can I just get a carrier "case" like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/yg...model/firebird
without having to replace the internals?

I really don't want to spend $400 on a new posi, when mine is perfectly fine, except for the banged up carrier case.

And if I CAN stuff my internals into a new case, how hard is it? Do I need special tools?

Thanks guys.

Re: Broken Carrier question

Those cases are for a standard differential, not a posi. You can not put posi parts in a standard case. If you have a standard differential then just go to a junk yard and get another one for about $20. If you were close I would let you have one for about $5.

If you have an Auburn then you would be doing yourself a favor by replacing it with a new Eaton Posi or Yukon Dura Grip.

Was the hole elongated ?? A few too many 'neutral drops' perhaps !!! I just had to tosss a 4th Gen Auburn carrier because of an elongated shaft lock hole.

+1 Save yourself the time/effort/$$ and replace it. Used POSI rears aren't that expensive and it's about the same work to load a complete rear in place rather than trying to 'rebuild' an Auburn.

If you ever tried to install a spring pack into an Auburn carrier - you'd understand !!
