Speedo cable question
I have a 700R4 in my 1987 IROC and the speedo cable is busted where it goes into the trans. Do I need to replace with same, or does a cable from a manual trans swap right over? If so, please provide year and/or model swap over info if you have please. I have a thread over in the classified wanted section for this and a member is offering his T5 cable, but we're not sure if it will work?

Re: Speedo cable question
All the same.
Either it IS a cable, or it IS NOT a cable. Except of course that it needs to make that hard 90° out of the trans so it needs that reinforcement thing on it. (either buy one that way or transfer yours over)

Re: Speedo cable question
The part that goes inside the trans to mount the gears may vary but GM speedo cables are all usually 7/8" x 18 thread at the connection

Re: Speedo cable question
Easiest way to fix a busted cable is go to the local parts store and buy their cable replacement kit. Its the same braided cable just something like 6' long and has one end squared off and the other end you will cut to the needed length and add a little squared cap that gets crimped on. costs around $8 and is an instant fix instead of waiting for one from hawks or summit. Just did the exact same thing a month and half ago, make sure the cable is lubed up too!

Re: Speedo cable question
The cables are all the same, as far as how they attach to the transmission.
Different cars may have different length ones though, so you gotta watch out for that. Has nothing to do with auto or 5-spd, or Camaro/Firebird, or 6-cyl/V8, or year, or model. Main thing that makes em different is cruise control.
