700R4 - ET Times/HP
Just wondering what kind of abuse everyone is putting to there 700R4, I just burnt up the 2-4 band (carbon) and trashed the drum in my 700R4. Going to try the RED Eagle band with a new drum this time. My car sees more street than strip, but have run 10.73 @ 130 at the track last summer. All of this work is done by a professional race transmission shop, because transmissions are pretty greek to me.
Thanks for any feedback.

ProBuilt Automatics sells very nice kits. You can even buy the parts separate and have your local shop put them in. They sell kits up to 700 HP or so at the motor.
I'm still in the process of working out my tune (new carb), but old setup made a lack luster 280 RWHP. After I get it tuned it and my issues fixed it should make around 400 RWHP on the motor. Probuilt 700-r4 I have is from about 10 years ago made to support 550 HP, but it has survived multiple 7000 RPMs shifts on the street using a 9.5" lockup converter.

Re: 700R4 - ET Times/HP
I believe my 700 was built with alto/Red clutches and bands but not sure. Local shop did it and all i said was i need it to hold 500 hp. But i know they use alto / red clutches alot.
I ended up having a 400 whp 383 plus a 150 shot run through it. Best 10.63 at 127. Tranny never skipped a beat. It had 20-25k miles of abuse from the 254 whp bolt on L98 that went 12.95, and then 1600 miles of 383
Wish i would have tried it in the 800 hp turbo car

Re: 700R4 - ET Times/HP
you can get them to hold a lot today.
iv been beating on mine from day 1 (car was new)
but iv had a full manual/auto Valve body. none lock up set up in mine.
and the 5 pinon planets and aftermarket beast sun shell(the real one w/patent#)
aftermarket front drum bolt in clutch ring(not the snap ring)the list is long.
now it has the 6 pinon front planet and some other parts...I like the 700r4.

Re: 700R4 - ET Times/HP
last time car was at track
10.54 1/4 mile 1.52 60 ft (foot brake) 383. 180 hit nos.
it ran that for 5 to 6 years.. 11.70.s eng no nos.
just foot brake and floor it.
will have to see what it will do now. with the 427 and boost.
a few things have been added to the tranny as well.
I did brak a spag one time..but that's after the rear end let go at mid track over 100mph.
about 1997 I think..after that Installed the 9"
