Transmission help
I have an 84 sc, 2.5L with the 4 speed. What type of 4 speed is in this car? And will any other manual hydraulic clutch line work on this transmission. I don't have time to do my swap til winter but would like to get the car driving again. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Transmission help
I've found lil tech info on this car and narrowed down to a bw T4 or a Saginaw 4. Thanks for the help though. That's 2 for t4. I can't find any hydraulic line replacements for the life of me.

Re: Transmission help
It's most likely a Saginaw AFAIAW. But I "know" very very little about that drive train.
Easy way to identify the transmission: if the reverse shifter shaft goes into the main case, it's a Saggy; if it goes into the extension housing, it's a T-10. If the shifter is an internal rail type instead of an external rod-&-lever type, it's a T-4.
I have no clue about hydraulics for that motor. I thought those all had a Z-bar but I could very easily be wrong. Which if there isn't a stock hyd system for it, it probably would cost more than the whole car is worth, to retrofit any aftermarket or other hyd system into it any other way.

Re: Transmission help
It's that stock nylon hydraulic hose. Line is bad. I believe it's a Saginaw. Thanks for the info so far it's all been helpful. I know the car ain't worth much to others but its an 84 with 38k orig miles. I'm the second owner and the I terror is perfect. Body needs a lil work. I'd like to keep it orig just because it my first camaro. But it seems like it's gonna be easier to do a eng/trans swap. I just wanna drive my car again. I'm 29 and I'm pouting like a 9 year old. LoL.

Re: Transmission help
If it came with hydraulics, then AFAIK the same hydraulics should fit that, as fit any other GM hydraulic clutch system. You could either replace the line with the braided stainless one that somebody (Russell? not sure) sells, or replace the entire system with a brand-new pre-filled and pre-bled one, which if it's real old, might be a good pre-emptive first strike against sitting by the side of the road with a car that you suddenly unexpectedly can't put into or take out of gear.

Re: Transmission help
Yea it factory hydraulic clutch system. If it is a Saginaw would the slave cylinder and clutch line be the same as a v6 or sbc with a manual? I've always had Chevy trucks and a couple dodges. Don't know much about 80's bowties.

Re: Transmission help
Thanks gt4373, basically the parts for a I4 is the same as a 6 or 8? Someone had told me the line for a V8 manual is a different size.

Re: Transmission help
Besides that, there's about 5 or 6 different part #s (or, have been over the years, at least) for the assemblies; only difference between any of em is, the line. BUT... they all will work on ANY car. Seems like the first time I had to put an assy in my 83 car converted to a 84 hyd system, in maybe 88 or so, I used a 86 assy; later, in maybe 95 or 6, I used about a 91 assy. In both cases, it was solely because that was what the dealership had in stock. All of em fit perfect.
Given that the master cyl is in the same place no matter what engine is in the car, and the slave cylinder is in the same place (dictated by other invariant factors) no matter which drive train is in the car, I'd STRONGLY suspect, based on experience, that all of the lines, while they might be slightly different in some random way, will still interchange.

Re: Transmission help
How to you convert to a braided line or rubber hydraulic style line? Aren't those ends threaded and the factory nylon is that end that's kept by a lil roll pin

Re: Transmission help
Somebody (Russell maybe?) is said to make an adapter fitting that has the factory roll pin thing on one end and a 3-AN or thereabouts on the other.
