Governor Lock posi

Hey, im new to the site and hope I can get some help. I recently installed a 425hp 350 in my 87 Iroc that has a non posi with 3:23 gears. I have a line on a posi that I could put some 4:10 gears in but it is a Governor locking posi. Will this unit work for me or will it blow up the first time I punch it with that much horsepower?

Don't even bother with it. It's not worth the trouble it would take to install it even if it was free. Look at the Eaton Posi or Yukon Dura Grip. Jim at www.jdrace.com can get you a good price on one.

Re: Governor Lock posi

Gov-locks are for people who need traction when driving very gently. Like my own work truck on my own angled dirt driveway in the winter. They do well enough then, because they're cheaper ( used ) than welding an open diff, and drive better than welded diffs, on dry or icy roads, but anything more abusive will teach you why they're called gov-bombs. And that's why used ones are so cheap. I had an '84 T/A WS6 that came factory-fitted with the gov, behind a stock LG4 that was driven by a middle-aged woman. That gov survived past 200,000 miles, but she never abused it. Heck, that car was on original-sized 215/65 tires when I got it.
