T5- Grinding when coasting to a stop
This problem seems to keep coming back. Been through a few new thrust bearings and it goes away for a while.
It's a rebuilt T5 with aftermarket gears and G Force case. Shifts really smooth, no problems anywhere except:
Occasionally when you slow down and put it in neutral or hold the clutch in it makes a grinding noise you can feel through the car. Only happens once in a while sometime just ticking over in gear it will do the same thig.
Driving me insane- any suggestions?
Many thanks.

Gearset issues wouldn't tend to be fleeting as you've described.
Throwout bearing is what it sounds like.
If you push the clutch in, pull out of 4th and into neutral and it does it;
But you leave the clutch pedal be, pull out of 4th and it doesn't do it,
Then I'd consider the TOB a suspect of the noise.

Hey jmd- many thanks for responding with sound advice. So pop it out of 4th and coast without clutch and see if it does it?
Thanks a million

New beefier TOB and 200 miles later the sound is back. This time I used the self aligning bearing. Was perfect but now the sound is back.
Could it be related to alternator/ PS pump/ Flywheel or starter re-engaging?

Yesterday the clutch pedal went to the floor.. Couldn't select gears. Pumped it a few times and it came good.
