What's up with GM?

Here I am putting a tremec Tko 600 into my best friends 90' Z.... We've always wondered why GM never put a tremec behind the 350 tpi? Now, I know they did finally once the 90-92' Pontiac Trans Am Firehawk, but why not everything else??? I had an 88' formula 350 but it was a 305 tpi with a 5-speed... Could we only imagine if GM would of done it earlier, mustang probably wouldn't of been as popular.. 350tpi and a 5 speed plus 3.73s.... I'm just saying...

Re: What's up with GM?

You had a Formula 350, but with a 305 tpi and a 5 speed? Sounds like it wasn't a Formula 350...

And I swapped a T56 into mine. It is pretty clear why they didn't put a 5 speed with the 350 if you did a quick search.

Re: What's up with GM?

The Firehawk had a ZF S6-40

And Tremec hadn't even bought Borg Warner's light duty line yet, which included the T5 and T56.

The effort to swap engines or convert to manual is pretty reasonable. Have at it.

The same reason they didn't put a 5 speed in the equally underpowered L98 corvette at the time. CAFE / emissions laws at the time. The vette got the 4+3, then later the ZF6 with CAGS.
