700r4 help

hey guys i have a 87 irocz 305 tpi with the 700r4. every time i shift from park to reverse or drive the whole car slams forward or reverse and yes the brakes are fully applied

This is kind of normal (relatively speaking), especially when going into reverse.

What's the engine idle speed before you shift it into gear? If the idle speed is rather high it will make the "bang" feel even harder.

its different at times usualy around 800rpm at idle i replaced the trans mount that was worn but same problem

I have the same issue, but I know mine is partly due to my rear brakes being worn and the rotor(s?) warped. Part of the issue, I imagine, is the generated torque from the torque converter due to the torque of the engine being instantly applied. Thus, the amount of 'lunging' will be determined by the brake pressure: higher pressure, less lunging. I would look at the brakes more than the trans, unless you have hard shifts or slips throughout the other gear ranges that suggests there's something wrong. Just a thought.

brakes were out of adjustment it seems to go down a bit but still its alot of movement compared to other cars
