Rear end *POP*

Hey guys/gals, so about 5-6 years ago when we swapped my worn out 10-bolt 3.23 posi out for the new(er) 3.27 posi, disc brake 9-bolt upon backing it out of the garage, MAYBE 20 feet in reverse, there was a loud and most distinct *POP*. After a thorough investigation we found nothing to attribute it to. The car drove fine, and left 2 long black marks as desired.

fast forward 5-6 years, everything is still fine. And the cover has been off to verify that the gears were ok as well, just fyi.

I was reading a thread about a guy doing a rear-end swap and this just happened to come to mind. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I always thought that something was just in a bind and broke loose to where it should have been, I didn't even know of this site's existence at the time.

Today must be 3.27 9 Bolt Posi day! When mine "popped" like you mentioned, it ended up being the pinion crush sleeve. Drove it to the rearend dude and he fixed it. Mine started to whine on deceleration right after that happened, so I had to get it fixed the next day.

I know right? Mmk, well, mine hasn't whined ever and like I said, no problems have surfaced in the 5-6 years since installation. thanks though! I'll keep that in mind if it starts to whine at some point.

The cones were probably stuck and when you moved the car it broke them loose. Just my guess.

My 9 was snapping and making a bunch of noise after a bearing and gear change and shimming. Tube of posi additive cured it.
